Summer Trends And A New Giveaway!!!

So The truth is...I hate Summer. It's hot and sweaty and everything and everywhere is stuffy and dry. Girls get way too risque with their clothing and they push the limits of what is appropriate a little more each year. The sun beats down on us, and even in the pool...the one place there is to almost cool off...you need sunscreen and sunglasses.

Although I hate summer fashion trends, there are some good things to be said for design trends...especially when it comes to window coverings! It's interesting to see the crossover in fashion and design trends. We hit the summer season and bring out all our lightweight cotton, linen, and sheer clothing and our homes follow suit! The photos in this blog are one way our homes reflect the style of the season: Using light, natural colors and sheers on our windows to block the sun or welcome the sunlight as we please.

We Are Now On Pinterest!!!

It took quite a long time for me to jump on the Pinterest band wagon. It wasn't that I didn't want a Pinterest account, I just didn't think I had the time to manage one...as evidenced by the fact that I have not been on here in quite a while either!

I finally had a reason to get an account, and that was to WIN! First Z Gallerie was hosting a contest, and I ADORE Z so I simply HAD to enter...and then I quickly became addicted to the entire site. It's such a simple way to keep all your inspiration in one place!

I now have boards for the home, style, things for the kids (when I have them a LONG time from now), and my most recent is a travel board. Granted that one is for a contest through Expedia so it does have a theme. But if at some point in my life I actually get to visit the places on my board, I will consider life complete!

Go Ahead...if you're not on pinterest, JOIN, follow my boards, and you won't be disappointed. Personally I think there's some pretty quality stuff on there!

Have a blessed week!

Simply Be...Don't Just Do

Goodness Gracious it's been a while since I logged in here! This is because I started my full-time job at California Custom Carpets, Inc. and choose to be with my family and not with my computer when I get home.

Here's the deal: I absolutely, positively LOVE my job and am extremely blessed to have been given the opportunity to work for this company again. I love what I do! I'm busy...I'm going places and doing different things with different people ALL. THE. TIME! I live by my to do list...and by my white board (priority list) and I simply ADORE crossing things off. This is because I am about as task oriented as people come and could practically rejoice at the thought of getting things "done" and then crossing things off...or highlighting them...or erasing them from the white board.

I had a really good day today. And when I say that I mean I got a number of things done. But I was reminded at the end of the day as I was sitting in traffic enjoying a piece of melt in your mouth Dove chocolate (insert witty comment about mother's day chocolates being the very best) that sometimes I need to "Simply Be...Don't Just Do". I realized that a productive day can be about the tasks or it can be about who you are and what you learn from each passing moment.

Food for thought I suppose...

NOTE: The photos serve no purpose other than to be an inspiration and aid in the relaxation of my "simply being" themed evening.

Hope you all are well!

"Real Life" Disney Characters

I recently discovered an artist who uses photo manipulation techniques to create "real life" versions of the Disney princesses we all know and love. This artists name is Jirka Väätäinen and I've taken to following him on facebook here. He has a full collection of princesses on his facebook page, I just chose to show you my favorite, Aurora. I would REALLY love it if you would "like" his page to show that extreme talent is much appreciated in this day and age.

In school, we had to do a project similar to this using Photoshop. This project was completed freshman year and let's just say I didn't put in much effort. If I knew this could be the result, I probably would have taken the project a bit more seriously!

Anyway, I thought you might like this bit of inspiration on a rather gloomy Tuesday morning.

Have a blessed rest of your week and don't forget to enter on facebook for the throw pillow drawing!

Everyone Loves A Freebie!

Anyone who has been following this blog or knows me very well at all knows that right now I'm really trying to integrate my social media platforms in a new strategy for job hunting. I suppose I figure if enough people see this blog or my facebook and take a look at my portfolio someone is BOUND to see the potential for greatness and contact me, right? Wishful thinking? Eh...probably...but at this point I think it's worth a shot!
So, without further ado...that idea that brought you to this post in the first place...the FREEBIE!!!
Concept is pretty simple; when I get to 100 "likes" on my portfolio facebook page I will draw a name from those first 100 fans and one lucky person will win a set of striped throw pillows (shown below)! There you have it...now get to sharing and I'll post the winner's name when the contest ends!
The Fine Print:
First 100 fans determined by the administrator's list available to Kate through facebook account settings.
Contest ends when KB Interior Design reaches 100 fans or on 5/1/2012, whichever comes first

Resolutions...Take 2!

My goodness how time flies! It's already January 17, 2012 and we are more than TWO WEEKS in to the new year!!! How's everyone doing on those resolutions? Eh? So-so? Been better? GREAT?
One thing I love about the new year is that it's a time to reinvent yourself. We make resolutions and try sticking to them in an effort to make ourselves better people. I don't mean in a "changing your entire being because you were a downer last year and hate yourself" kind of way, but a "I'm already a confident person who might have had a crummy end to last year so what am I gonna do about it" kind of way. It's taken me a while to figure out what I want to improve upon last year, because 2011 was a BIG year...HUGE even! SO MUCH stuff happened and I'm so thankful to be where I am today. But I figure it's still January, so why not make resolutions now...and anyway this way I might have an easier time sticking to them because they don't seem like set in stone resolutions because it's so late. Now they are basically goals that I'm voicing near the beginning of the year.

1) I really need to stop biting my nails! I have gone through times when I will leave them alone and I think I've stopped biting them but then I notice that one is longer than the others. I proceed to pick that one off in an effort to "even" it up with the others. That backfires because I always make it shorter than every other nail so I bite them all off and tell myself it will be different this time if they get to start over. That's laughable! So seriously...2012 is the year I stop biting my nails!

2) I really need a job! I have been looking for almost a year now with no steady job and very few real leads. I've contacted, followed up with, asked for any other leads, and recontacted firms too numerous to count! I know the jobs aren't always available but I gotta say it's growing discouraging. This wasn't intended to be a debbie downer kind of post so that is all I will say in my personal little pity party. 2012...I'm conquering a job and I'm going to be the best new hire any company could ask for!

3) I'm revitalizing my mark. business! mark. is a company that takes fashion and beauty trends and challenges young women to make their mark. It's an empowering brand with Ashley Greene, a powerhouse of a role model as their brand ambassador. If I, through the relaunch of my mark. eBoutique can expose just one person to the idea of making their mark on the world and changing the world for the better, then I think I've completed what I set out to. Here's the direct link to my mark eBoutique: http://mboice.mymarkstore.com/

4) I'm going to get serious about working out! I like yoga! I like feeling refreshed and rejuvenated after sweating and stretching! As a former dancer I have one outlet that gets my heart pumping and is fun and exciting. That's all well and good. What gets me though is the fact that I like dancing to work out, but I think running, jogging, lifting weights, swimming, etc. is just redundant and pointless. I HATE jogging...WITH A PASSION! I LOVE performing! But I don't have a way of doing that anymore. So I resolve to do yoga, pilates, and ballet barre to work out. I wish there was a Barre3 near me!

I think that's enough to share with the whole of the internet!
Hope you are all enjoying 2012 and making the absolute most of each and every minute God has given you!
